About.
Cortland is a creative strategist, runner, and aspiring writer based in of San Francisco, CA. Currently, he is pursuing an MBA in Design Strategy at the California College of the Arts (CCA), and will be graduating this summer and available for work starting in July. His interests include business and product strategy, business models, and growth strategy. He is eager to explore entrepreneurship from start-ups to design consultancies that embrace human-centered design methodology. Following personal experience, Cortland is especially interested in projects dedicated to shifting healthcare from treatment to prevention-based models.
Cortland comes to design with fresh eyes after 5+ years in advertising, helping enterprise clients such as Eli Lilly, Comcast, and Hill’s Pet develop and execute digital media strategies. There he honed his storytelling, interpersonal skills, and analytical expertise - abilities he now leverages as a designer. He completed his undergraduate degree in sociology at Bucknell University, and this same desire for a deeper human perspective helps him excel at user research, synthesis of research to creative solutions, and build tools that help people.
His larger body of work often focuses on the intersection of humans and technology, bringing strategic foresight and systems thinking into the fold. He approaches work with enthusiasm, curiosity, and the spirit of collaboration as he believes a diversity of perspectives are what elevate ideas to the next level.
Outside of school, Cortland can often be found outdoors - running, skiing, and spurning motorized vehicles in favor of his bicycle. He is the second of four children born and raised on the small island of Bermuda. He’s keen to dive headfirst into opportunities and can be contacted here.
